- Your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)

- Your date of birth

- Your filing status (e.g., single, married filing jointly, married filing separately, head of household)

- Your current address

- An email address

- Your tax return from the previous year (you may need specific information from it)


Step 2: Visit the IRS Website


Go to the official IRS website Once there, look for the section titled “Make a Payment” under the “Payments” tab.


Step 3: Create an Online Account


To manage your tax payments effectively, you need to create an IRS Online Account. Follow these steps:


  1. Click on “View Your Account” in the “Payments” section.
  2. On the next page, click “Create or View Your Account”.
  3. Click on “Create Account”.


Step 4: Pass the Secure Access Process


The IRS uses a Secure Access process to ensure your information is protected. Here’s how to complete this process:


  1. Click on “Get Started” under Secure Access.
  2. Read through the requirements and click “Continue” if you are ready.
  3. You will be asked to enter your SSN, date of birth, tax filing status, and address.
  4. Next, you will need to verify your identity using a financial account number (like your credit card, mortgage, student loan, home equity loan, or home equity line of credit) or a mobile phone registered in your name.
  5. Create a username, a password, and a PIN. Remember these details as you will need them to log in to your account in the future.


Step 5: Complete Your Profile


Once you've passed the Secure Access process, you’ll need to complete your profile by entering:


- Your email address

- A phone number

- A site phrase and image (for security purposes)


Step 6: Link Your Bank Account


To make tax payments:

  2. Select “Direct Pay” for a one-time payment directly from your bank account, or choose “IRS Direct Pay” to set up a more permanent solution.
